Once they leave their den in spring, grizzly bear cubs are seldom more than a few hundred feet from their mother. Even though female bears are excellent mothers, most cubs don’t survive to adulthood. A number of factors, in particular adult male grizzlies, affect a cubs ability to survive its first few years of life.
